The other transmitter may be off for up to two weeks more, awaiting a replacement tube, at a better price from China than rebuilding or a new one here. Allan has mixed emotions: does not believe in state-run broadcasting, should be done by private individuals, even if government funded. If we had resources, we would put on ``VOA`` programming, perhaps in partnership with some other SW stations. But not one-sided, not anti-Trump. He doesn`t fully agree with the shutdown. Does not want to take over Greenville facility, hopes VOA can come back in some form. They are both in Florida Studio 9, but we hardly hear from her except to make angry anti-Democratic interjexions. He admits to hogging the show and asks if she wants to hear some music; no definite reply heard, as he fiddles around but there is not enough time left to play anything more. Just received two copies of new Free Radio Weekly, like I did, so spends more time than usual reading station names, frequencies, a bit about program content and again disses SSB in favor of AM mode for pirates, imitating vocally how SSB sounds on AM reception; yes, but. That would be RRI in Romanian overlapping at 14-16 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9395, UT Wed Mar 26 at 0030, one of dozens of `Wavescan` airings on WRMI. Mid-part 0042-0051 about USAGM/VOA situation as of March 19. Jeff quoted Kari Lake, NPR report, Jose Jacob obs of which broadcasts were off the air, also Thailand, Philippines; Vatican and Korea via Greenville; including some clips. First item voiced by Ray Robinson referred to ``C M Stanbury [II] in the USA`` getting a QSL for Commando Solo long ago. I can`t be positive where he was on a particular date, but his QTH was Crystal Beach, Ontario, on Lake Erie west of Buffalo USA, south of Niagara Falls. CMS2 hasn`t come up in a long time. Is not even in Wikipedia. He was a prolific DX author, such as for Electronix Illustrated, and here are some examples from 1969-70 of his own SW Newsletter, `published` by multiple? carbon copies of his dirty-keyed typewriter with numerous typos or strikeovers: https://www.radioheritage.com/otsw/Newsletters/Short_Wave_Newsletter_Stanbury-II_1969-70.pdf IIRC he was handicapped in some way. I finally time the difference as 57! seconds, which is far more than satellite delay or internet delay could account for. At 0700 I can`t catch any ID of the understation, just WMT, but probably KTBB TX, or maybe WREC TN; Fox ``news``, which is listed for all 3 of them (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 660, March 21 at 0651 UT, `Coast to Coast AM`, // 600 WMT and many others. NRC AM Log shows only C2CAM on 660 is KEYZ, Williston ND, U4 5000/5000. Also logged Feb 16 at 0805 UT, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 770, March 23 at 0332 UT, dominant signal with net talk show, but break for a New Mexico ad, so KKOB is doing well for 12.5 kW ND, stronger than its northerly neighbors on 760 & 780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 810 kHz, March 22 at 0606 and still 0640 UT, dead air from top signal, no doubt WHB Kansas City, depriving us of stupid sportstalk, tsk2! A musical station audible underneath. No 810.6v het this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 900 kHz, March 23 at 0329 UT, station gives address as casscountyradio@gmail.com, music. Guess what, ``Cass County is the name of nine counties in the United States, each named for Michigan governor, senator and presidential candidate Lewis Cass`` -- IL, IN, IA, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, TX. Who? When was that? {Democratic candidate for president, 1848.} But only one has a radio station by that slogan, per Google search, KALT, Atlanta TX, altho NRC AM Log says the 900 call there is KPYN and it`s silent! KALT is on FB however. Radio-locator knows of only KALT-FM 106.5 in Alturas CA! Guess what: FCC LMS agrees on the FM in CA, and also a DKALT in Atlanta TX whose license was canceled almost 20 years ago! So is 900 now KPYN as per NRC? Yes, in fact since 06/30/2000 per FCC LMS, and Cass County Radio does not expire until 2029y. And it`s not silent now. Only 33 watts at night! Don`t you believe it? 1000 day, U1. With so many stations, excuse me, cheating on their legal night power, makes it impossible to tally QRP DX catches or even records. If you ask the station and they even answer, are they going to admit they were on day power? Possibly, but if denied, can you believe that? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. ``Re: the 1030 UNID in Spanish: I think you can safely rule out KCTA. I'm pretty sure KCTA only runs a half hour of Spanish programming each morning at 6am CT. It's the “Galvan Revival Church” program as listed at https://kctaradio.com/blog/weekday-schedule/ I often hear that program from KCTA on my Border Inn DXpeditions, as KCTA signs on at (or before?) WBZ FCC sunrise time, which is 1100 UT / 6am CT in October when I make my recordings. As for KCWJ, it might be worth comparing your signal to Radio Aliento del Cielo here: https://alientodelcielo.com/ KCWJ was reported as both Radio Aliento del Cielo (//KKLO-1410 and a 92.7 FM in Lenexa) and Radio Vida around the same time a few years ago. I wasn't sure which report was correct, and I haven't heard KCWJ much since. HTH, Tim Hall`` Mauno Ritola via abdx.org: ``MW list has Aliento del Cielo Radio for KCWJ: https://alientodelcielo.com/ 73, Mauno`` Before seeing those, I listened again to 1030, March 20 straight thru from 0510 to 0620 UT: Still, no announcements whatever, just praise music in Spanish; could have inserted ToH ID at 0603 between songs or 0608; does FCC ever cite stations for such repeated minor? infraxions? I also checked the Radio Vida webstream which radio-locator.com thinx applies to KCWJ, but it was talk part of the time, and different music part of the time. So obviously KCWJ is not (any longer?) with Radio Vida, explaining my obs. I also DFed it as NE/SW which fits well for Kansas City area. Anyhow the music is nice and harmonious; fortunately I am much more fluent in Spanish spoken than sung, so could enjoy the music pro arte without being distracted by the no doubt nonsensical lyrix (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1150 kHz, C2CAM on 1150 frequently has a very quick echo, close to a reverb. Main one is KSAL Salina KS, but what else? Too many others in NRC AM Log: WNDB FL, WJBO LA, KRMS MO, WIMA OH, KAGO OR, KQQQ WA, WHBY WI, CKFR BC. Most likely WJBO, 15/5 kW but U4 direxional E/W, or closest, KRMS MO, U1 840/55. It`s easy to DX C2CAM all over the dial, especially during a caller with distinctive voice, or music bit; but usually far out of synch with each other (Glenn Hauser, OK, March 21, WOR) See 600 ** U S A. 1270, March 23 at 0338 UT, sportstalk in Spanish, carrier cutting out irregularly - I think, rather than just the modulation. Only fit is KFLC Benbrook [The Metroplex] TX, on TUDN network, U4 50/5 kW and heard before (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1280, March 20 at 0629 UT, ``Newsradio KYRO,`` back to `Red Eye Radio`. That`s U1 660/45 watts at Troy MO, address in St Louis. Bet they were on huge day instead of night power. Radio-locator shows address in Moscow Mills, which is just SE of Troy and site is further NW of Troy halfway to Silex; also near Wentzville, home of WA0RCR, all of which NW of St Louis (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1510 kHz, March 20 at 0631 UT, WLAC Nashville still getting equal-level QRM from KCTE, and now also logged elsewhere: ``Terry L Krueger via groups.io, Boggy, Florida Occidental, IC-R75, NRD-535, ICF-7600GR, Tescun PL-360, active loop, random fence-stapled wire, misc. junk: 1510, MISSOURI, KCTE, Independence, 1035, 13 MAR 2025. Presumed the one, daytimer cheating at 10 kW with ESPN spew, parallel delayed station stream. Poor with WLAC barely nulled. Thanks Glenn Hauser tip. Vanuatu; would be interesting to find how early it can fade in direct. We are already quite sure this be direct from SMG (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 344 kHz, March 24 at 0628 UT, JBA carrier should be strong enough to hear some MCW, but nothing. Possibilities in NRC AM Log as of last August: KOGO CA, KCOL CO, WREC TN, KTBB TX. I think we can rule out KOGO: besides distance, null thisaway. KCOL also null thisaway. KTBB does have a lobe thisaway, and WREC is direxional SW. Assuming everyone in spec, that leaves KTBB Tyler TX, which is also closest (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also USA: 600 above UNIDENTIFIED. 810.59, March 20 at 0640 UT, JBA carrier again hetting 810.00 WHB.
