Basically, the iTunes-like Google Podcast service will cease to
function on 2 April 24. Anyone who uses the Google Podcast app (or a
play their podcasts via Google Smart speaker) will need to start using
YouTube or YouTube Music apps paired with their devices. It's a real
pain and I hate this decision, but that's the Googleverse we live in
now. Setting the new stuff up for smart speakers is a little tricky,
but your followers are smart cookies and I wager they'll figure it
out.

trying to monitor Turkey at same time. Synch mode cannot lock onto the
reduced carrier, but I can hear it by tuning down to 15475.5 USB. 2310
mailbag, from Chimbote, Perú, Buenos Aires. 2312 on phone a colonel
who says he is in charge of RNASG, anniversary since base started in
1951y. Brief music breaks among more talk, but mostly music after 2335.
By 2347 noise bursts, QRN at SDR? or OTH radar, as I have to wrap this 
report before presumed 2400* sign/off to come (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, continued from last report, LRA36 ran
a little past 2400 UT March 23, with a song, stopped at 0005* March 24
with no formal s/off/despedida perceived (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BOLIVIA [and non]. 3310, March 24 at 0202, JBA carrier, presumed R.
Mosoj Chaski, often logged by Bob Wilkner, FL. I might have better
luck if I were ever DXing around 10 UT, and rid of OG&E`s line noise.
I`m still waiting for them to fulfill a workorder to fix it. Is this
the last remaining Latin American active on 90m? Almost! Tropical
Bands Monitor shows only one other, added since last year, 3365, R.

** BRAZIL [and non]. 6180-, March 24 at 0210, presumed RNA is audibly
off-frequency-minus as I tune in USB at 1-kHz steps; Wolfgang Bueschel
measured it at 6179.939 on Feb 10. And so is its neighbor as always,
XEPPM askew 6185-. This reminds me to bring this up: without axually
making a tally, it seems to me that stations are more likely to be
off-minus than off-plus, e.g. Tashkent; WBCQ always 6160- and almost
always 7490-, altho 5130++, etc. Is there some technical reason, such
as the way components age, for them to lose rather than gain Hz?

usually quite reliable here. How about their other frequencies?
Nothing around 5940v either nor have I detected it in a longer time.
11750.16 has a JBA carrier, maybe RVM; propagation? 11780 RNA is

** BRAZIL. Stephen Luce, Houston TX, replies to my previous report:
``Glenn, checking the Brasília Kiwi SDR around 0330 UT March 26 I’m
hearing R. Voz Missionária on both 5940 and 11750 with good signal
levels, but nothing on 9665``

Precise frequencies would be helpful. At 1723 I check the ``Brasila``
SDR: only S3 on 5940.110; S5/S6 on 9664.998; S5/S7 on 11750.132, all
// with screaming gospel huxter. Closely calibrated: on same, WWVH
15000 JBA ranging -1 to +3 Hz, no doubt instability of rx or prop, not
WWVH (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [non]. 17650, Sunday March 24 at 1442, S Asian? music,
S6/S7, 1446 talk. Only 17865 Martí Grimesland has better signal on
band. EiBi shows Bible Voice via Nauen, GERMANY, Sundays only in DR =
Dari; also Saturdays only in English; and English also on first
Saturdays only at 1400-1430 on 17650 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, March 23 at 0335, RHC English, S9+35/45 direct but
modulation sup/torted, unlistenable. And this is the ONLY non-jammer,
non-spy frequency on air! 4765 & 5025 both off, and no RHC found
elsewhere on 6, nor on 9, 11, 15 MHz bands; 13 MHz not checked but has
been vacant of RHC for many months. Even 6000 is off by 0624 recheck.

** CUBA [and non]. 15140, March 23 at 1920, NO signal of RHC English
into Maryland SDR. SAWA. Nor at 2014 but there is a JBA fluttery
carrier on 11760 -- RHC? No, this semihour only, RFI Issoudun, FRANCE

** CUBA. 15140, Sunday March 24 at 1443, RHC Spanish at S5/S7 direct,
on the air for a change; JBA algo on 15230, RHC? EiBi & Aoki show
nothing else ever on 15230, and RHC at this hour. By 1504, confirmed
weekly Esperanto at shifted time ex-1600 UT during EST, only S6/S8
into Maryland SDR, nothing on 15230; and 11760 also Esperanto, poor
S5/S7. 1954 recheck, 15140 starting French,
presumably after some English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6100, March 25 at 0631, long-absent RHC is back on here in
Spanish, S9+25 but undermodulated with self-imposed noise unlike
elsewhere, 0633 ID. But 6000 is off. 5025 is on at S9+40/50 in Spanish
seems different, so Rebelde. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 15140, March 26 at 1940, RHC English VP with
squeal, S3 into Maryland SDR, waterfall showing squeals about 15137.3
and lesser at 15142.7. USB tuning might have helped except there is
much stronger S7/S9+5 Chinese traditional music on 15145, Firedragon
jamming? nothing listed there by Aoki & EiBi between 0800 and 0630,
nor trace of target. As expected, cuts off at 2000* sharp, never
announcement nor timesignal. 15140 better by 2030, RHC going from
French to Portuguese. Still with squeals, not only +/- 2.6 kHz, but
weaker ones about 5.2 around 15134.8 and 15145.2.

I`m checking 15140 because David Crawford, FL, just told me: ``The
Bauta Squealer is in full bloom today (1805Z) --- The RHC carrier freq
is the usual 15140. The diagonal voids are ionospheric fades sweeping
across the freqs. The good high-power Bauta tx is on HM01 duty today.

wasn`t there a minute earlier when I tuned across. Another TDF test

** GERMANY. From SW Radio/Gold March 23: ``Hi Glenn, thanks your
message and the regular links for downloading WOR - good work as

Concerning HFCC A24 changes: YES we stay at local CET times. So you
should shift times UTC for WOR to one hour earlier.

NEW schedule for Shortwave Gold will be as follows, cause the Chinese
invasion of the 49 mBand should be gone with Sunday 31st of March:

6160 kHz: 07:00 UTC to 22:00 UTC
3975 kHz: 17:00 UTC to 00:00 UTC

6160 and 3975 will carry WOR in parallel to the current CEST/CET
times, when overlapping.

We are currently working on 'filling' the extended evening airtime
with programming concerning 6160 kHz after 15:00 UTC and 3975 kHz 
after 22:00 UTC. I am sure you will have some more slots for WOR.

I will inform you about the exact times in a couple of days' time.

BTW, concerning the difference between SW Gold and SW Radio.
"Shortwave Gold" is the licenced broadcaster by BNetzA. Courtesy 
"Shortwave Radio" puts out their shows, as well as some relays and 
shows under the roof of the Shortwave Gold label.

not. IRIB is running special Ramadan breakfast shows including on
6060, per EiBi, 2350-0050 in Kurdish, 0120-0220 in Turkish, presumably
instead of Arabic which had been running 6060 until 0230 from the

S7/S8 of music, 1709 YL voice announcement in presumed Japanese,
another one at 1713; extremely excited high-pitched voice at

drifted to 11514.904. Further chex: at 2142, 11514.91, S7/S8. Never
could make out an ID but pirate, Hikari FM, in Arizona or Sonora. A
lot better than the usual JBA offset carrier I can get direct. If you
can get into it vs all those wsprdaemons infesting it. Gary Pence has
also been hearing this via same remote. Is it simply relaying this

** SAUDI ARABIA [and non]. UTwente at 1620 March 26 is getting Arabic
on 11935 - the frequency which had been that horrible noise, believed
to be Sa`udi with the Rep of Yemen Radio. Is that it? EiBi also shows
Farda - Farsi until 1630 via Germany. Some other music underneath.
Vatican to start Arabic at 1630 on 11935. Glenn. Thread continues on
WOR iog:

``By 11935 kHz you mean what signal blob without carrier I had
ignored, believing it was a spur from some defective transmitter
operating elsewhere? Yes, something else, sounding like Arabic, too,
can now be heard in the background of the Vatican signal that provides

Yes, as I reported a number of times, the 11935 blob was the same as
previously on 11915, 11820, 11860 - where originally Rep of Yemen
relay was. Hardly to be ignored. Vatican Arabic did come on at 1629.5,
taking over UTwente. Vatican finished by 1730. At 1732, 11935 with
Qur`an in the clear. But is it Riyadh, and which program, Yemen`s or
not? Apparently SA has finally fixed that transmitter or changed to a
good one. Not // 11745 in Arabic.

Recheck UTwente at 1756, 11935, no signal but *1756 cuts on
immediately to the horrible buzzroar: it lives! past 1800+. So
something else on 11935 earlier, no roar. A few minutes and hours
later, no signal direct on 11935, just not propagating, but still loud
to UTwente past 2038, 2243. Glenn

Kai Ludwig replies at 1858: ``I made the mistake to tune away from
11935 after 20 seconds or so. Could it be made out if The Buzz came up
with the same muezzin, i.e. the same programme feed? The question is
of course whether it is the same Saudi transmission, being handed over
to another transmitter.

Attached the last seconds of the good 11935 transmission until cutting
off at 1755. It had no faults, the described carrierless blob before
1700 was again something else.

Also attached a snippet of 11745 at 1800 top of the hour. Breaking up
audio as transmitted. The reference to Riyadh should be clear enough,
but no "Al-Azm" whatsoever, not in the whole period between 1756 and
1810 unless I overheard {sic*} it. Instead some mentions of Al
Arabiya, for what it's worth, if anything.

And now I wonder if 11935 The Buzz is our good old friend from years
ago who, if I remember correct, at times splattered over hundreds of
kilohertz. If so it would mean that the Riyadh shortwave plant is

sight, the word is ``overlooked``. ``Overheard`` does not have a
parallel meaning, rather, hearing something by chance or when not

I don't remember any real information about Riyadh. The 70s vintage
transmitters could still be in operation there, considering the
resurfacing of that long known fault.

But first I would focus on identifying the programming that goes out
on the (just two, it seems) remaining outlets now. Kai``

Riyadh. They plan to dismantle that and either move to a new site or
discontinue shortwave. This has not yet been decided. It's Ramadan

unreachable. 2238, S8/S9 into Kuwait. Still at 2345 into UTwente. As
for sites, Ed The Navydude in Riyadh says, ``Jeddah is not active.
Neither is Ha'il. Only Riyadh is active albeit barely. They're hoping
to get new transmitters if they end up continuing shortwave`` (Glenn

direct holding its own against my noise level. Preview, about World
Theatre Day. News, first item about REE SW being defended in
parliament, necessary vs Internet being blocked; new? transmitter to
be installed at Noblejas. If & when a podcast for Mar 23 be
availablized, maybe we can copy exactly what was said. Chris Campbell,
Ohio, was also listening: ``The President endorsed shortwave in the
wake of the Ukraine war even with transmissions to North America. They
didn't mention any languages and they already do that even with
English. It could be a bunch of fluff, but I hope not. I remember
seeing someone actually had contact with Justin Coe. I wonder if he
would know?`` -- well, he retired so may be out of the loop.

2308 about upcoming Semana Santa with big processions such as in
Sevilla; apartments and even balconies-only are being rented out to
spectators for prices like 700 Euro. 2309 announced own new A24 sked
without any language details: M-F 15-23 to WAf/SAtl 15390; ME/IO
15520; 18-02 NAm 17855, SAm 17715. S/S same frequencies, all at 14-23.
I wanted to be sure about ``17855`` - Might have said 17885 believed
to be incorrect, but there was a distortion/fade right at that
instant. 2312, World Poetry Day was March 21; World Theatre Day will
be March 27 but celebrated on Sat Mar 30 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. Finally available, easily reached via the WOR Hitlist, the
Fri Mar 22 ``March 23`` English podcast, so I can transcribe exactly
what was said as the first news item, good news for SW, tho cloaked in
gobbledygook:

``We broadcast on shortwave, and on Thursday the president of Spanish
National Television and Radio defended our shortwave station in
parliament; regarding the message that the corporation is adopting to
guarantee the continuity and the future of Radio Exterior`s shortwave
broadcasts, the president announced that the purchasing of a new
transmitter, the first of five, is already underway [snippet of
original Spanish: ...concreto, ya está en marcha el proceso de compra
del primero de los nuevo cinco transmisores requeridos para una óptima
prestación del servicio...]. These transmitters will be installed in
the center in Noblejas, Toledo, one of the biggest antenna fields in
Europe. The corporation is also working with the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs to draft a collaboration agreement that will contemplate the
role and relevance of the shortwave service provided by Radio Exterior
de España [...la onda corta, como Vd. se ha dicho muy bien, se ha
convertido en una alternativa al bloqueo de internet y de otros
canales de información, como se ha podido ver en la reciente guerra en
Ucrania, ¿no?...]. The president mentioned that shortwave has become
an alternative to blocking the internet and other information channels
as has been seen in the war between Russia and Ukraine. And also, we
guarantee sharing information from Spain to America, Europe, Africa,
Asia and Oceania. She also added that the corporation hopes to have
support from the future mandate framework in order to guarantee this
service which she has no doubt is a state service [...unreadable ...

Why do they need five new transmitters? The old four are still
working, most of the time. BTW, altho the English broadcasts are
exactly 30 minutes, all these podcasts are slightly longer, up to
33:22 mins, meaning that we are missing something on SW; why? (Glenn

into Maryland SDR, 2309 about the EU A-I Act; but then I`m listening

S9+40/45, today to be about Semana Santa activities, such as parades,
but lots of precip, some may be rained out. In recounting the
significance of the nigh dates about JC, which wander all over the
spring calendar, they never say ``allegedly`` - this is journalism?
2307 repeating the basic A24 SW sked, and yes, 17855 not 17885 for us.
Then quite a stretch explaining how one group which dresses in sheets
has nothing to do with the KKK, as American tourists are shocked. 2319
on to food. 2324 `Halleluyah Chorus`, 2327 report from Beirut about

none heard at 2306 direct: was VOT on & off? By 2323 I`m on UTwente
when measured, now VG S9+30/45, during music. 2328 `Turkish Folk
Tales: The Nightingale` voiced by a different YL than usual. 2332
music. 2336 `That`s Why` the badax, something about food safety. 2342

** TURKEY. 5960, March 23 from 2250, I`m monitoring UTwente for VOT to
show up but it never does by 2301, when I check 9610 instead, and
there it is on 9610.009, already news in English. Yet again, erroneous
Emirler forgot to turn 9610 off after the 2130 English hour. But VG on
9610, S9+10/20 with slightly more fading than 5960. I`m trying to
monitor LRA36 at same time. 2313 both go to music. 2318 `Energy
Agenda` about plans to build a 1200-km highway and railway from the
Persian Gulf thru Iraq into Turkey, a more efficient means to
transport Gulf and Iraqi oil into Europe, especially vs Suez Canal and
Red Sea problems. First I`d heard about this ``new partnership
initiative``. 2329, `Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products` about
handicraft art from Trabzon. 2332 ``always-by-your-side`` promo,
mostly music thereafter except ``a-b-y-s`` again at 2341; abrupt
chopoff at 2346* while no move to 5960 this late, still clear

Not heard announcing yet, and would probably mess it up anyway, but
per HFCC here is the A24 English sked, all times earlied by one real
UT hour from March 31: 1230 17620, 1630 11660, 1830 9750, 2030 9875,
2200 11785, 0300 6165 & 7275. 11785 & 6165 are the NAm frequencies;
17620 also aimed thisaway across Europe. That means a foulup like
today would find the 2200 on 9875 instead (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

S9+30 into UTwente, constant undercurrent of 6CI = Chinese Communist

Guess what? The current 9955 skedgrid shows NO Cuban exile programming
whatsoever anymore, so jamming even when it`s on the air is totally
unnecessary - with the possible exception of 15 minutes a week, UT
Friday 0100-0115, Radio Free America Latina! which is not about Cuba

has a notch due N but a lobe NW, so we are in between NNW. Day
pattern very similar (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1670 kHz, UT Sunday March 24, at 0152 UT, with a K-index of
5.67, I am hoping for some auroral conditions enhancing southsigs; but
routine MW bandscan hits 1 kHz tone restarting every 11.5 seconds, in
between, ``This is the Brewers Radio Network``. Got to be WOZN Madison
WI, sports format, and reported last August to have been really
carrying Milwaukee Brewers baseball. But their first silly ballgame
this season is not until March 28 v Mets - no wonder there is nothing
to broadcast tonight! Why not ``spring training``?

annoying voice sounds like a male person, but you never know. 0242 I
check 1670 direct and it`s still the tones & Brewers. This might have
been helpful for DXers afar, even if they could not copy the keyword
Brewers, nor could I at first. Maybe CBS SR is on their FM 96.7 only.
Obviously no one in charge of WOZN knows or cares what they are
mistransmitting on 1670, plugged into satellite downlink? Or web. 

WOZN is our normally dominant 1670 here anyway. But at 0155 I counted
a SAH of 88/minute = 1.47 Hz; what could that be? There are only a few
other 1670s in N America. Probably WMGE in Georgia, which was 2 Hz
away, but mwoffset measurements were 25 months apart and each also has
a variable range. I have a hard time getting XEFCR in Reynosa, but
well-known for being much further off, 1670.047 as of 2024-03-14

UNIDENTIFIED. 13563+ CW, March 27 at 2213, dash and RQ sent thrice,
JBA but fades up a bit and certain of the call. Noise blanker on the
R75 essential as OG&E has not fixed the line noise yet. NOT listed at
the LWCA HIFER roster nor any reports in HFUnderground. New? Where?
Not PCO as expected around this frequency, recently relogged (Glenn
