** AFGHANISTAN [non]. 7470, March 19 at 0245, S7 carrier vs S9 storm crashes, open? No, fades up a bit with some YL talk, ME language. Yes, VOA Deewa in Pashto is sked at 01-04 via Lampertheim, GERMANY, My ears perked up at tune-in, since 7470 was the favorite frequency of Station YHWH, but quickly discounted as not Josiah`s voice. He`s been AWOL for months, yet still in Aoki as daily 0300-0530! Last report of that I find was September 10 by Harold Frodge, MI. There were some other catches in August by Eric Fetters-Walp near Seattle, Aug 31 and Aug 5, and Rick Barton, AZ on Aug 15. My last log was August 5 at 0231 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ALASKA. 9535, March 24 at 1502 as I tuned in, the KNLS IS heard once and then VP algo. But sked for Chinese at 1400-1500 only, so next language/frequency must have come on late. Was checking whether Cuba were off already instead of 1600* during standard time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.96-RCUSB, March 20 at 1448 and 1525 chex on Brazilian SDRs, NO signal from LRA36, which might have been active this Saturday as it was last Wednesday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, March 24 at 1521, LRA36 is on the air again on a Wednesday afternoon; good S7-S8 into Pardinho, Brasil SDR; music, frequent IDs, talk segments. Waterfall tuned as above displays signal with sharp edges 15476.2 to 15478.7, i.e. 2.5 kHz wide, on the upper side. But since it still shows same after sign-off with no signal, that must be an artifact of the remote`s USB bandwidth rather than of the incoming signal alone. Back to 1525: another canned ID; talk segment concludes with despedida until next miércoles --- but does not sign off, back to music. Seems they are playing brief pre-recorded segments. 1538 as if signing on again, ``a partir de este momento``, then in German and English saying that they are in Spanish, duh, and a fourth language, at first I thought Italian? At 1545.5 yet another ``sign-on``, this time fourth language more like Japanese? 1549 song about Antarctica; 1549.5 YL greeting in the ``17th`` program, mentions station personnel, discussion; 1556 contact info. 1605 another canned ID, part of which goes, ``Nacional, Antárdida Argentina --- la radio pública``. 1615 ID and more talk about COVID-19; 1618 email address, QSL offer; mostly discussion about the ejército, as after all, this a paramilitary if not totally military operation; ``en todo el país``; 1648 recheck still talking but chopped off air abruptly at 1650*. Come to think of it, never noted them with the name ``Radio Nacional Arcángel San Gabriel``, but maybe missed it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BONAIRE. VOA attempted to get airtime on TWR 800 Bonaire last year, in order to reach adjacent Venezuela without the inconvenience of shortwave, but first started after 0000 UT with HJHJ 600 Barranquilla, Colombia, as I monitored last summer. (Rafael Rodríguez en el grupo DXing.info fb, vía Ydun’s Medium Wave Info).(via El Dial)`` Now that it`s Monday March 22, I check for it via TWR`s own Bonaire SDR. At 2142 an interview is underway with someone fluent in Spanish but with obvious American accent -- I wonder why such people don`t make a little more effort to tighten up their dixion. Seems to be about the border situation; and then another one about the pandemic in the US, neither of which very pertinent to Venezuela. 2159 VOA ID and sign-off, quick ID as ``PJB-98, Apreciamos su sintonía`` and back for more VOA. 98? What`s that about, an FM frequency? There`s no PJB or any other Bonaire FM station in the 98s listed in WRTH 2021. While sufficient, the 800 signal is not superstrong on TWR`s own SDR --- they must be deliberately attenuating it, understandably. On the waterfall, much stronger signals show on 550, 710 and 910 which are obviously Caracas, and 860 from Curacao (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA [non]. Re 15300.055V, under GERMANY, BVB, March 19 at 1439: altho EiBi shows site as Nauen, latest HFCC shows ISSoudun, FRANCE started 01 February; not as BVB but generically as MBR multilingual. ISS is more likely to be off-frequency than NAU, but it could be even more likely TAC = Uzbekistan, as Wolfgang Bueschel points out registered for A-21 by MBR BOTH for UZB and F; maybe already (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 4746 & 4784 approx., March 18 at 0118, scratchy spurblobs out of 4765 R. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,, WOR) ** CUBA. 5040, March 18 at 0112, RHC in dead air except for some hum; something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5040, March 18 at 0601, RHC still in Spanish instead of English; which is on 6100, but 6060 is off, and 6000 OC at first and turning off; while 9700 continues S9+20 in English. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13773 S5 & 13626 S7 approx., March 18 at 1359, wide spurblobs out of RHC 13700-AM; also 2nd-order 13553; with program audio almost clear along with tone which I have been denoting F# above middle-C, but not rechecked against keyboard until now when I find it closer to F-natural (where`s that ♮ symbol?) i.e. closer to 350 than 370 Hz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, March 19 at 0239, RHC Spanish S9/+10 but big humbuzz. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Had been starting circa 0300, but DST probably earlied it to 0200? Yes, can // it to 15140 and 15230. Separation is plus 286 kHz from 15140, and nothing between them, but also a trace at minus 286 = 14854. Still there at 1501, after 15230 has closed. 15140 itself is slightly distorted. This time best audio is in FM mode, the two closest ones attaining full quieting, with music and talk, tho lofi and with loud F-natural tone imposed, which is all I can detect on the third- orders; today`s intervals about 67 kHz tho broad and hard to pinpoint. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, March 21 at 0619, RHC English with huge humbuzz and spreading out plus/minus 15 blocking 6070 CFRX; 6100 still on but S9+10/20 of dead air. 6000 is off, but by 0632, 9700 is still on VG S9+30. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13376 trace, 13491 S2, 13506 S3 vs CODAR, 13571 S8, 13635 S8; 13765 S9, 13830 JBA, 13895 S3, 13960 trace, 14026 trace: March 21 after 1418, FMish spurblob panoply out of fundamental 13700-AM S9+20. All approx., at ~65 kHz intervals with F-natural tones, on the fringes the only reveal. Not in the order tuned. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13833 approx., March 22 at 1352, spurblob with no program modulation but hum; 13766 undermodulated with hum and no F-natural tone here either; source 13700-AM is S9+10 and undermodulated; 13635 S8-S9; 13570 better S7+ and tone; also weaker traces circa 13503, 13440, 13373. Approx. 65-kHz intervals. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6100, March 23 at 0630, S9 humbuzz from the only RHC still on the air, otherwise just barely modulated if that`s the audio source. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13435 trace, 13500, 13567 vs CODAR, 13633 S9; source 13700 S9+30; 13767, 13834, 13900 S5, 13967 & 14034 & 14100 traces at least of F-natural tone, March 23 after 1418, distorted spurblobs today at ~66 kHz intervals, the closer ones with readable audio in NBFM; not in the order tuned. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11760, March 23 at 2332, the #1 historic RHC frequency is humbuzzing at S9+20, much like that heard 17 hours ago on 6100: suspected very same transmitter, except now it`s also fully modulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EAST TURKISTAN [and non]. 5960, March 21 at 0000, from the land of ChiCom imperialist genocide against the Uyghurs, XJPBS Urumqi in Chinese dominates The Mighty KBC, Holland via Germany, as heard via UTwente SDR, Holland; it used to be off-frequency minus but now is within subaudible heterodyne - SAH range of Nauen. Until a few minutes earlier, however, VOTurkey IS covered it up (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EAST TURKISTAN. 7300, March 23 at 2327 S7-S9 Chinese with flutter. HFCC shows CRI in Chinese via Urumqi this hour; from the land of Chicom imperialist genocide against the Uyghurs. I have just been way-out-of-bandscanning below 15 MHz, just above and below 13 and 11 MHz, but no sign of CNR1 or Firedragon jammers which used to occupy many frequencies in these ranges. I`m not hearing them morning or evening, even when there are some such inband signals. During the winter I assumed propagation was just not working, but now I wonder if they and/or Sound of Hope are still all over those areas? Wolfgang Bueschel was still hearing them in those three ranges, March 7 between 08 and 09 UT via remotes in Japan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GERMANY. 15300.055V, March 19 at 1439, JBA talk on fluxuating frequency as I try to measure it, roughly 15300.045-15300.064. Better than last night as noise level lower (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUATEMALA. Reply received March 20 from Dr Madrid at Radio Verdad, not including a QSL per se: ``Thank you, Glenn, for your concern about Radio Truth. We are on the air already with only 250 watts. Roberto Scaglione, Sicily at 1757: ``Italian is on air today....`` That would be 5930. At 1840 into UTwente, still Albanian on 7305, 5925; presumed Hausa on weaker 9475. 6040 last? 1918:10 carrier cut on briefly and off again. English is just starting, cut on air to stay at *1920:45. Good into UTwente. But JIP some program is closing?? Says 1920-2020 on 6040, 11880, FM 91.5, satellites, internet, phone; music not IS. Program feed may have really started an hour earlier due to DST confusion? We`ll see what follows. No, 1929 ``This is IRIB English radio; coming up is the news``. 1930 chimes and news starting with nuclear deal, Yemen vs Saudi Arabia, anti-coronavirus restrixions. Music keeps playing during headlines. Hmm, American accents but a bit of an anti-American slant ---. Right into an interview (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** IRAN [and non]. Continued from last report: 6040, IRIB English from *1920 March 21: at 1948 about pandemic, and now via UTwente, // 11880 is also VG, S9+25 while 6040 is S9+30. 2002 a lexure on Islam starting with a bit of Arabic; billions of people have been informed about Islam; something about ``good governance``; New World Order in Farsi, Arabic. 2011 song. 2014 reading an article from National Geographic about Amazon forests, greenhouse gases, not just CO2. Still in progress when chopped off the 6040 air at 2020:32* and 11880 is also gone. Like at 1920 joining program in progress, obviously there is no coördination between programming and transmission on the odd SW timings of :20 past the hours. Altho news on the (half) hour aired successfully, perhaps the rest of English programming be pulled from their TV service? which operates on a different schedule. Anyhow, English is still going, a day after all SW was feared to be terminated. I`ve heard the whole hour altho not with undivided attention vs my favorite Sunday afternoon music on public radio stations. Nothing heard in English about a SW closedown, nor did Bryan Clark, New Zealand. Spanish had been announcing such a close, so am sure to check next broadcast in that language, from 2350 on 5980, 7230. At 2349 via UTwente, 7230 is S9/+10 with IRIB IS; 5980 comes on later at *2350 at S9+20/30 but dumps off at 2351* while 7230 remains. *2352, 5980 back on with Qur`an introduxion in *English* not Spanish, now not // 7230 which is in national anthem; 2354 into Spanish introduxion of Qur`an, and by 2357 both in Spanish seemingly matching. Now 7230 has a SAH from an understation: CNR via Xi`an the only other listee. On ForoDX, Spaniards suggest SW programming is now coming from the HispanTV channel; and a Spanish A-21 SW sked was announced. At 0130 I check UTwente for other sked languages: 6040 Arabic not heard. but on at 0131 JBA carrier then Qur`an; 7360 has algo, Tajik? Enough for tonight. 7310 Arabic, 9800, 9870, 9390 at 1456 March 29 via UTwente, seem to be occupied by regular VIRI S Asian languages as scheduled. 6 MHz frequencies not heard, maybe not propagating this early. 7300, trying again March 29 for 1520 English, like yesterday, I can`t hear any of it via UTwente or Kolkata SDRs, just the China/Taiwan radio war. But maybe it`s still on. Next: *1920 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** IRAN. Another check of VIRI March 22 to confirm whether still on SW in English, despite reports that some or all languages would quit. At first no signals at 1920 on 6040 & 11880, monitoring both via SDRs in Holland and Ireland where I have been getting IRRS with WOR. But both cut on late at *1922:30, again like yesterday without the formal sign-on procedure but instead JIP English, something about Pakistan just ending. 1923:40, music, ID as ``Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran`` and schedule as 1920-2020 UT on 6040 to Europe, 11880 to South Africa, also on FM 91.5 for Tehran, several satellites, mobile phones. 1924:48 some traditional music; 1929:06 ``IRIB English Radio, coming up, the news``; 1930 chimes and news. I check again for the *2350 Spanish broadcast March 22 and there it is via Bonaire SDR, standard opening with IS, NA, ID, Qur`an, on 5980 with splash from CRI/Cuba 5990; and 7230 with SSB and AM QRhaM, since after all, Iran is INTRUDING into the W Hemisphere hamband. So it seems that all this talk about quitting SW was a false alarm, started by LVRII itself announcement in Spanish, but since then others have heard them also announcing a new A21 sked for Spanish! It may be confusion inside the organization, or even a power struggle? There are at least three entities involved, IRIB, VIRI, and Pars Today. It`s never been clear to me exactly how these relate to each other. Anyhow, this has encouraged me to listen to Iran a lot more than I ever have; remember even when they had a separate English for North America in our evenings, called `Voice of Justice`? Not sure of its lifespan, but I see it in my handy 2005y WRTH (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 9605, March 18 at 0111, KBS in Spanish via WHRI is still here and not on 11880 via VOA Grimesland, where it tested for a few days a week ago. However, A-21 tentative HFCC no longer shows 9605 but 11880 instead (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MADAGASCAR. 11609.960, March 19 at 2144, Chinese from MWV is considerably off-frequency; usual good signal far beyond target Europe, not China. Quick check of other frequencies finds LHN on 730, 570, 540 but best on 660: likely XEEY Aguascalientes2, tho 4 or 5 others in IRCA listing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 770, March 22 at 0550, rock music, Spanish announcement; string of PSAs including Secretaría de Salud Pública, Electoral concluding with 3-tones which as pointed out in NRC IDXD is a giveaway that it`s Mexico: ``Mike Jeziorski, Juriquilla, Querétaro, México; Sony ICF-2010, no external antenna. International News MEXICO: If you are listening for Mexican stations, pay close attention to the three-note chime at the end of this announcement on YouTube: https://youtu.be/R9LrXpVLpbE The chimes end every announcement by the Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE), which has been running PSA's very frequently on AM stations in the months leading up to national elections. If you hear those notes cut through the noise, then you have an XE coming in`` After that, PSA mentioning Tribuna Electoral, Zacatecas, so again it`s XEFRTM in Fresnillo, rather than XEACH Monterrey or anyother (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also USA: WGN ** MEXICO. 1050 kHz, March 23 at 0617 UT, choral Mexican war-mongering NA is just ending rather late after HCM/CST midnight, and then full florid legal ID for XEG, which I should record and copy verbatim, including street address in Monterrey NL, and 100,000 watts ``efectivos`` --- as in ERP? AM stations normally are known by their transmitter power, altho ERP can be calculated in different direxions if they are not non-direxional, which XEG supposedly be, day and night. 100/100 kW, WRTH and IRCA Log agree. At the moment it`s atop, but plenty of QRM. Much of the time it is buried in all the Unitedstatesian QRM vs this traditional Mexican ``clear`` channel. NRC AM Log shows 44 US stations at night, one 50 and one 10 kW at distances, likewise in Canada, but US mostly under 1000, under 100 or even under 10 watts! But it all adds up, piles on. I could easily believe XEG really run much less than 100 kW. Remember in the good? ole days when it was a border-blaster in English with a simple address of Fort Worth, 11, Texas? Look for us most Friday nights at 9PM EDT on 6960AM. We now have a website with show archives at http://BallSmacker.net Here's an eQSL!`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 4075-AM, March 21 at 0236, pirate music S9+10, stronger than 4055 TGAV only S9; 0237 segué to a heavy beat dance tune and cut off air at 0241:15*, no announcements. More logs as unID, some thinking it smacked of X-FM: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,79347.0.html Very sad news via NASWA: pirate enthusiast and columnist George Zeller died the morning of March 20 from a house fire in Cleveland, caused by electrical overloading. An obit is in the WOR iog. His website is still up: http://www.georgezeller.com/ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [non]. 341-MCW kHz, March 24 at 0606, still no EI Enid, ND beacon, but after several stops and restarts, I still expect it back, sometime. Instead, JBA DNI, which is 25 watts from Sherman-DeNIson, Texas just across the Red; not often audible, but now instead of or atop, OIN, Oberlin, Kansas. I`ve yet to hear plenty of other 341s listed in the Conterminous, Alaska, Canada, Greenland (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1460, March 19 at 1826 UT on caradio, KZUE El Reno music modulation is cutting out rapidly at rate of maybe 8 times per second. Maybe CD player malfunxion? Nothing done about it until fade to dead air at 1831 which continues until at least 1837. I was going to count/time the cutting per second against my watch, but driving, and it stopped before I could stop (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1460, March 22 at 1902 UT, KZUE El Reno with series of promos for Grupo Fórmula, and more totally México-centric programming as they plug into Fórmula feed every afternoon, not sure of exact times. At least there is no jittering on the audio like during music the last time I tuned by. Surely it`s not the only Unitedstatesian doing so, but in NRC AM Log KZUE`s Grupo is filed only under La Tremenda with two FM translators on 97.7. KZUE is a 500-watt daytimer but plenty to reach Enid; caradio again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PANAMA. 18160-USB, March 21 at 2159*, HP9SAM, Steve is going QRT but says he will be back next Sunday here or on ``56``, at same time (starting when?) and returning frequency to normal ham usage. An active ``17`` m guy logged before (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PHILIPPINES [and non]. 12120, March 24 at 1454, Chinese under RTTY and CODAR; VOA Tinang and jamming scheduled 1400-1500. 9825, March 24 at 1457, rock music S5-S7 with flutter, off at 1500. Another VOA Chinese via Tinang and jamming, 1000-1500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. 7325 > // 6130, March 18 at 0122, RRI in English going from `Society Today` to `Visit Romania` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SCOTLAND [non]. 7570, Sat Mar 20 at 2300, `Encore` classical hour from R. Tumbril is not to be heard on this WRMI when it has been for a few months; not even on the air now until 0000, per new skedgrid updated March 14. Contrary to this week`s promo from Brice Avery; guests on WRMI cannot expect to be notified of schedule changes, rather must keep monitoring and checking the skeds, which now show: New On 5950: Tue & Sat at 2200 0100 UT Sun on 5850 & 7780, not a new simulcast; has been so for several weeks. When I listen to it this week! Still shown: 0200 UT Mon 5950 1300 UT Tue 15770 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Friday March 19 between precise timesignals at 2300:00 and 2330:00, REE token English M/W/F broadcast, starts with Justin Coe with new schedule effective March 28 for REE in general, nothing about English in particular, but likely shifting to 2200. Here is how he put it: M-F 15-23 W Africa, S Atlantic 11670; Mideast, Indian Ocean 15520 M-F 18-02 N America 17855; South America 11940 Sat & Sun same frequencies and targets at 14-22 Once again, no mention of present NAm frequency 9690, which BTW is near-local-quality now, S9+30. A much higher frequency in the summer daytime is certainly needed, 17855 as used a few years ago, and it will be interesting to see how well and how long it hold up, as NO other European, nor anywhere overseas, is even attempting to serve us on 16m! But over mostly- or all-dark path a much lower frequency is required, like 9690, after, say, 2200. Anyhow, I listen to the rest of the semihour, as Alison Hughes introduces a `Culture` show, first about Bellini`s opera `Norma` being produced at the Teatro Real, including beautiful yet heard-rending performances of the aria `Casta Diva`. Next topic at 2321, cinema chain reopens after closing in February, with new COVID restrixions. Then, film-music composer García Abril has died. ``Antón García Abril (Teruel, 19 de mayo de 1933 – Madrid, 17 de marzo de 2021) fue un compositor y músico español, autor de música orquestal, música de cámara, obras vocales y bandas sonoras para películas y series de televisión.`` hit as I search on his name. 2327, refers to other platforms besides SW for hearing REE, with detailed parameters of all their satellite feeds to different worldparts. 2330 TS and into French (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Mar 24 from 2300, REE token English, VG on NAm frequency as heard in VA SDR, S9+10/40, Alison Hughes with a well-done comprehensive news review - of the whole past week? Since most broadcasts do not deal with hard current events. I also like her voice and style, but could not help noticing her mispronouncing Sergei, and Angela; interspersed bits of music until 2327 flamenco fill playout. From next week this is expected to shift one real UT hour earlier to 2200 M/W/F, as usual due to the irrelevant imposition of DST in Spain. This is totally irrational. First of all, by longitude, most of Spain should be on GMT, as the Greenwich zero-meridian goes down the east coast. The zulu timezone should extend 7.5 degrees east and 7.5 degrees west from there. Which means that the NW corner, Galicia, *should* be on UT minus 1! Since Spain normally is effectively on DST already, UT+1, this means most of the country will be *two* hours ahead of mean `solar` time, and Galicia, *three*!! Furthermore, advance publicity of A-21 schedule claims that the NAm beam will be only on 17855, from morning on the weekends, all afternoon, and as long as on air evenings until 0200* UT = 9 pm CDT, after sunset here and the entire path in darkness. We can only hope REE come to its senses and QSY down to, say, 9690, no later than 2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SRI LANKA. 15705, March 19 at 1434, JBA S3-S6 music with flutter, unusual to hear anything here --- only listee is at 14-15, AWR in Chinese via transpolar Trinco (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, March 23 at 2315, once again no signal here from VOT English to North America. By 2340 I`m checking UTwente SDR: Not there either, but East Turkistan, land of Chicom imperialist genocide against the Uyghurs, which is now exactly on-frequency. In case something failed to get turned off on time, like often happens to 5960 when it manages to come on in the first place, I proceed to check all the other TRT frequencies which were scheduled to end in the last few hours, -2030, -2130, -2200, -2230, i.e. 5970, 6050, 6120, 9610, 9625 --- either nothing heard at all or more China/Turkistan. So much for that. BTW, I was amused by a report from Europe which said, ``Last night I got a surprise; a new station that does not exist within the latest Handbook appeared on 11540 kHz shortwave. It was TRT Radio Recep Erdogan, who showed that the cult of personality has reached unimaginable heights in Turkey.`` While one could easily imagine Recep E. naming a station after himself, apparently the reporter does not realize that the name is merely an ironic handle that Ivo Ivanov first deployed upon the jammer against Dengê Welat; no doubt a spare Ermirler transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, March 24 at 2302, VOT English to us manages to be on the air today unlike yesterday, VG with ID and announcer name during the news; as heard at UTwente, VG S9/+20. From next week, March 28, this is to shift to 2200 on 9830 vs NAU PR RTTY, whenever it manage to be on air at all. Last year the RTTY would sometimes be off by 2200, but not dependably (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 329-MCW kHz, March 20 at 0640 UT, ND beacon AAA, 25 watts at Lincoln / Abraham Lincoln, Illinois. Yes, there is a 15K town named Lincoln, midway between Springfield and Bloomington. I was tuned to 327-USB. 335-MCW kHz, March 20 at 0638 UT, NDB BV, 25 watts at Batesville, Arkansas, which is west of Jonesboro and north of Searcy. Now you know. I used to know someone from there. 347-MCW kHz, March 20 at 0635 UT, NDB AFK, 25 watts at Nebraska City, Nebraska; with such a grandiose name, N.C. is only a minor 7K town in the SE on the Missouri River, right next to the IA/MO borders, a true tri-state area (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 400-MCW kHz, March 23 at 0605 UT, ND beacon AHQ, 25 watts from Wahoo, Nebraska. Yahoo! Gotta log this one every so often. Wahoo is a 4K town sorta between Omaha and Lincoln at the junxion of US 77 and State 92, i.e. between Prague and Ithaca; between Colón and Valparaíso. Obviously the Wahoonians were looking for a less derivative name than their neighbours (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 6994-USB, 0123 UT Sat March 20, MARS announcements, but never caught the callsign of the individual reading. WORLD OF RADIO 2078 monitoring: confirmed Monday March 22 from 1902:18 on IRRS 7290 via Bulgaria. Started late and as I feared, not flexible enough not to cut me off before finished, at 1930:06, onward to IRRS ID with PO Box, and Feature Story News again. As monitored via UTwente SDR: strong signal holds up, but so does the ACI splatter from 7290 Vietnam and 7295 East Turkistan, which cannot be avoided. Earlier: carrier on at *1857:10; no sign-on but 1900:38 JIP FSN in progress, not just half a minute of headlines as customary; 1901:34 cut to IRRS ID; 1901:46 *more* spurious FSN; finally cut it off at 1902:18 for WOR. Another problem is annoying skipping of my audio, but this must be a UTwente thing, since another SDR at Curlow, Ireland is not skipping, but just as QRMed. Note that from next week, March 29 after the imposition of DST in Italy, this airing shifts one real UT hour earlier to start circa *1801v. Per HFCC A-21 the QRM situation then will be: 7280 still Vietnam in Spanish; 7290 Iran in Russian until 1750, and hope it`s off in time, but even more so, CNR China until 1805. 7285 & 7295 both clear; but 7300 Iran in German until 1820. Opening talk about being kids in high school. Also some talk about still trying to find some more radio engineers. We also find out that the B in WBCQ stands for Big Balls Radio according to Allan. More talk about Allan teaching himself to be an engineer. Then into general radio talk about AM, FM and SW. The advent of digital radio and the implication of being controlled. Then into talk of repairing old radios. Allan states that he's not restoring as many radios as he used to and I don't understand his reasoning. They've been talking about young people not being interested in radio anymore and the lack of engineers and Allan states he's not restoring as many radios so that young people can see what they look like not being restored. Angela held out until 0043 before mentioning Trump or politics in general though she did make a remark early in the show about Covid and the vaccine. Allan also stated that he believed that a lot of WBCQ would be able to withstand an EMP pulse but that the superstation probably wouldn't. Reading of emails at 0055 after Angela flashed Allan. Greg Hardison, CA, in the WOR iog, replies to my log of Rollye James on WGN: "...Rollye James is sounding like a DXer..." ``Certainly one of the most amazing and fascinating minds with which I've ever interacted belongs to Rollye. I was very happy to hear of her new home at WGN/720, and hope they have the wisdom to keep her there for just as long as she will stay. Rollye James has graced the airwaves at many a station. She was briefly on the old KFMB/760 in San Diego, where I went on with her via phone a few times, whilst running the board up the coast/dial at KABC/790, unbeknownst to 790 mgmt., of course! She is a true radio-fanatic, in the same manner as the late great Art Bell, and can build a fine show around any subject in the known universe. A few nights ago on WGN, Rollye was working on an obsession with old R&B love ballads of the early-to-mid 1960s. Heard some tunes then & there I hadn't even thought of in nearly 60 years! Rollye is a born natural for WGN -- well, actually for any worthwhile station, but especially for 'GN, which is mostly maintaining its unique style under "new" ownership of Nexstar. Jim Bohannon is a small step down for WGN as he fiddles with the world of right-wing blatherhood beneath his talents, and it seems the only blatant mistake Nexstar has made so far is the addition of proto-fascist Trump-worshiping syndicated assclown Bill Cunningham on Sunday nights --- although once again WGN is unique, in presenting both the best (Rollye) and the worst (Billy) in commercial Talkradio! I hereby declare my undying love and mighty recommendation for Rollye James and her most-excellent weeknightly show on WGN. And if you can't hear the huge signal, there's always www.wgnradio.com`` -- Greg Hardison https://wgnradio.com/rollye-james/rollye-james/ ``Rochelle "Rollye" James is an American radio talk show host. She hosted The Rollye James Show nationally and on international shortwave on WWCR from 2000 to 2011. Rollye revived her show, broadcasting weeknights 10p.m.–midnight, via live stream and podcast on June 19, 2013. From the north dominating anyway on my E-W longwire despite night pattern supposed to be totally to its NW from SE SD; likely really on ND day pattern, 10/5 kW -- unless it has an STA like more and more stations are getting to run ND all the time with reduced power at night. Again at 0603 UT check, KXRB country music jingle (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1140, March 23 at 0619 UT, once again tonight, KXRB Sioux Falls SD is dominating the channel to the south instead of legally aiming all its night power NW: 0622 between C&W tunes, convenient simple ID only as ``KXRB``. Oook, last night`s log was misdated March 29 instead of 22, as were two others I`ve had to reissue corrected!
