July 18 at 1634 UT I remind the WOR iog that another test from LRA36 is imminent, according to Adrian Korol via Horacio Nigro, as previously published and on WORLD OF RADIO, ``Saturday, July 18 and 25, between 1700 pm [sic] and 2300 UTC, there will be test broadcasts of LRA 36 on the frequency of 15476 khz USB mode.`` Then I tune in 15475.98-CUSB ``early`` at 1637 via Brazilian SDR to find it`s already running! Immediately hearing an ID during `Corazón Antártico` program, of vocal/tango music with similar variety of IDs between every piece, including at 1640, 1647, 1650, 1654, 1657. At 1642, brief QRM(?) of tone, ``hola, hola`` and counting but never again. Some of the IDs refer to the regular Wednesday C. A. program at 11-13 local time = 14-16 UT. At 1700 it becomes clear the preceding has been a prélude to the real show which sounds live but isn`t: ID with 15476 frequency, briefly in English and Russian(!), anthem? Greetings and welcome to the 19th program in the series, 1702 TC for 11:02, credits for on-mike and produxion personnel, geo coordinates of Esperanza base, and they make clear it`s miércoles for them. There are many such stations located around the world that are operated by other amateur radio operators. Simply stated: A propagation beacon station constantly transmits a signal using morse code (CW) on a specific frequency. Maybe he will impart some info on tonight`s AAAWWW; please monitor, 00-01 UT Sat on 7490+ and maybe some of the others, or webcasts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330, July 17 at 2314, WBCQ-6 is still off but there is that curious JBA carrier on 9333; no signals on 5130 or 6160v, only noisy 7490v, as I am assessing the situation in hour prior to AAAWWW. Area 51 webcast at 2357 mentions ``slack`` several times, as in `Hour of` ? And about anal-retentiveness. 7490 webcast I switch to at 0000 UT Sat July 18 just as WTO theme is starting; by 0003 A&A opening as he always helps his sweetheart to adjust her microphonium; and right into politix which I don`t need to hear. At 0004 recheck the A51 webcast and find it also running AAAWWW but several seconds delayed. Spotchex follow: at 0015 A51 is playing a song, so no longer with AAAWWW, where the lovebirds are still talking on 7490 webcast. At 0018 annoying Freddie has called; altho he has several Black friends, he doesn`t like this BLM stuff. 0023 back on A51, music, what is this? DJ talking about formerly on WZAK in Canton OH, after a bunch of country/drinking songs. 0048 on 7490 webcast, AW mentions ``9330 is down, with *another* transmitter problem``, but no further details, not now anyway. At 0051, while AW is trying to read e-mail, Freddie is still on the phone interrupting with signal reports, including 5130 as 20 over S9, and as if AAAWWW is axually on it, so I check SW frequencies here: At 0054, 5130 is buried in noise but I can tell it is AAAWWW, not the music on the A51 webcast. 6160- is also audible, weaker than 7490. 0100, 7490 webcast, AAAWWW wraps up just in time for Hal Turner theme. 0217, A51 webcast is still running with music so I listen again for a while. DJ says this show is all-beer songs and back-announces a number of titles; in a six-week theme series, last week wine, next week marijuana, so put in your requests now to Zombo`s Record Party on FB, but this show is pre-recorded not live. IIRC, Zombo has appeared on WBCQ before, and he does mention WBCQ among other stations, but his name is not to be found on the WBCQ website schedule, nor even the Archive. Was on WZAK Canton at 4 am; also had been on WAPS; and did one --- only one --- show for KAOS on the west coast; finally ``This is WRCT 88.3, Zombo In Your Brain``. That`s a free-form station in Pittsburgh PA, and such a show is scheduled Fridays 10 am-1 pm EDT = 14-17 UT: http://www.wrct.org/show/897/ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330, July 18 at 0435, WBCQ-6 with WLCR is back on after a few days AWOL, including 4 hours earlier during AAAWWW when Allan mentioned another transmitter problem of some sort. Now S9+30/35 in English discussing Pagan gods (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 6159.9v, UT Wed July 22 at 0054 open carrier; 0055 start ``WBCQ The Planet`` ID & IS loop, 0100 music and faux time signal, Hal Turner theme. Now it`s // 7490+ and 9455 WRMI. 5130.0 is not // the other WBCQs, 0057 music, 0100 `Whiter Shade of Pale`, 0106 brief talk unreadable, maybe attempt to start `Amateur Radio Roundtable` as sked, right back to music 0111+; too noisy (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330, July 22 at 1400, WLCR via WBCQ-6 is gone again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9955, Fri July 17 at 1348, WRMI-3, `Viva Miami` --- this time it`s really in Spanish, Jeff & Thaïs chatting about Florida, a visit to almost vacant Orlando; big turtles on the beaches; and acknowledging reception reports, some from non-SS countries, such as Japón; did they really write in Spanish? Postal address remains 6-figure box in Miami; I`d think that would be inconvenient for the Okeechobeeans to check. Once again, 9955 does not go off* at 1400 but continues with `Freedom Synergy Radio`, first item about Hong Kong situation, in English; still going at 1417 but off after 1430. However, System B sked shows FSR webcast only for a full hour at 1400-1500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7730, UT Tue July 21 at 0038-0044, WRMI-13 segment in this week`s AWR `Wavescan` is tribute to the late Allan Loudell, a much-liked regular at the SWL Fests and Delaware broadcaster; with various clips altho we don`t hear much from himself (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15610, July 16 circa 2000, WEWN English is still AWOL after two weeks; also no 9385 at 0223 check July 17, while 5970 Spanish continues (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2043) ** U S A. 9385, July 22 at 0116, WEWN English is finally back on after missing some 18 days, first noted absent July 4. Now it`s S9+20/30, seems stronger than before, rivalling WBCQ-6 9330, so maybe really refurbished with more power output. Back on July 13, frequency manager Glen Tapley had replied to my inquiry, ``Filament and cable repair. Should be back in a day or two``. Program now is discussing Planned Parenthood, no doubt negatively by the Catholix who prefer Random Parenthood, and who cares about overpopulation, a root cause of many of this world`s problems? 15610, afternoon frequency should also be back at 19-24; did not notice it in random tuning July 21 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15610, July 22 at *1858.6 carrier cuts on from WEWN as I have been standing by to confirm their other English frequency / transmitter is also back on air after 9385 appeared last night. But it`s JBA, can barely perceive any modulation, as propagation is pitiful today, no sporadic E boost for this, nor 15825 WWCR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 17775-, July 17 at 1345, KVOH on early with song/hymn, S8 and undermodulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 17775-, July 18 at 1452, like yesterday, KVOH on early, prior to nominal start on English Saturdays of 1500, praise song in English, S9/+10 probably sporadic-E-helped, and with modulation sufficient. At 1505 I check remotes in their Carib target how well it arrive as `Wavescan` is in progress: JBA at the TWR SDRs in Bonaire, DR, and slightly better at closer Key West, but insuff; will have two or three dozen more chances to hear it on WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15810, July 17 at 2244, open carrier S9-S7. Presumably WTWW-3 rarely turned on, test? Anyone hear programming earlier today? Too bad it`s too late to compare with neighbor 15825 WWCR which has already QSYed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, UT Sunday July 19 at 0020, Theater Organ [Not] in the Ozarx is already underway on WTWW-2, so I immediately switch to $tereo webcast; evidently a performance from Indianapolis, ends at 0041, back to rock music so must have started this week circa 0010 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5890, July 20 at 0029, WWCR-4 is on here with Brother HyStairical instead of 7520 where is scheduled to be at 0000-0200, then 5890; why? Mixup? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5886 & 5894 approx., July 21 at 0210, the WWCR-4 transmitter on 5890 is flanked by some buzz peaks plus/minus ~4 kHz, maybe passing on a defect in the program modulation, which at this hour is E. C. Fulcher, TruthHouse Ministries rather than TOMBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7505, July 22 at 0124 and 0216 chex, no signal from WRNO, not unusual, nominally 0100-0400; is it frustrating for transmitters and receivers or does no one really care? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 657 & 683 kHz, July 18 at 0457, peaks of IBOC noise, which means it`s back on 670 WSCR Chicago. But not surrounding sibling station 780 WBBM. This reference does not show it back on WSCR since 2019: http://www.topazdesigns.com/iboc/station-list.html Background on this and one of our WOR-supporting friends, William Hassig. After I mentioned no IBOC bothering SPAIN on 684 kHz, on April 4, 2020, Tom Jasinski wrote from Joliet: ``Glenn: The IBOC for WSCR 670 and WBBM 780 has been off for over a month now. Both stations now share the same tower.`` On May 9, William Hassig, Mount Prospect IL, explained: ``Combined 670/780 site. I'm fine, thanks. In a recent WOR I heard that WBBM 780 is now on the same tower with WSCR 670. Last week I drove west on Golf road (IL58) to Martingale road and turned south. I drove past the WGN 720 transmitter site with its main rower and self supporting spare tower. Martingale rd becomes Rohlwing road at that point. I continued south past the former WBBM 780 site and not only was everything gone but the property had been sold and a commercial building was being constructed. I continued south to Army Trail road and headed west past the WSCR 670 site. Its main tower is taller than needed for the 670 frequency and on top is a multibay antenna for Spanish language WLEY 107.9 FM. I took with me an old "el cheapo" TRF radio with one gang tuning that I had picked up free as a loss leader at Montgomery Ward many years ago. It is basically an amplified crystal set with resonant ferrite antenna. I tuned it to 720 before leaving home and left it there. As I passed the 670/780 site both stations came out of the radio. In front of the old brick building was a small SUV with the 780 logo on it. I looked on Google earth and it still shows the old 780 site.`` Then, from him on July 10: ``Hello everybody, I'm home after an unplanned 29 day odyssey. On the afternoon of Thursday 11 June I was riding my bicycle south on the sidewalk on the east side of a 4 lane street. As I was riding across a cross street on the crosswalk some southbound doofus made a sudden left turn in front of me in his van. I collided with his drivers side door and the rest of the van did a number on me. I had a gash on the right rear of my scalp and I was knocked out immediately before I hit the pavement. I woke up in the hospital in a cat scan device then they took x-rays and found that I had a broken scapula in my right shoulder. On Friday 12 June they sent me across the street to a nursing home where I needed help doing just about everything. On Friday 19 June they transported me back to the hospital at 6am to have an operation where they put in a metal plate. That afternoon they transported me back to the nursing home for more physical and occupational therapy. I was just released to go home today at 11am. Now I have to use a cane to walk. Anyway, that is where I was all this time.`` Our best wishes to Bill for a full recovery (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 1090, July 21 at 0601 UT, dead air from KAAY Little Rock, just like happened months ago night after night, but had not checked for it lately: automation fails to fill a news-hole. This makes it easier to DX other 1090 stations, nulling KAAY. I am expecting XEAU Monterrey NL as used to be primary and may be in mix now, but also something in English, song refrain, ``No, he`s my brother``, probably an hymn. Closest other candidates are KMXA Aurora CO, but is it still ``regional Mexican`` as in radio-locator.com? and 500 watts at night? Or KEXS Excelsior Springs [Kansas City] MO, EWTN English but zero watts at night? KEXS at 300 miles can make it here in a quiet daytime. Or??? 0605 gospel music modulation comes back on from the ESE, LR AR. KAAY may give us more DA chances, also perhaps at other hourtops (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1680+, July 20 at 0612 UT, dead air open carrier looping NE/SW, vs C&W from KRJO Monroe LA to the SE. I figure it`s probably WPRR Ada MI, which recently went ``off`` the air. I didn`t normally get WPRR well enough to listen to, KRJO dominant. These make fast SAH against each other, the NE one on the upper side. MWoffsets shows: ``1680 1680.0106 KRJO (Monroe, LA) [1679.9930-] 24h 2020-02-13 1680 1680.0167 WPRR (Ada, MI) [1680.0137-1680.02] 2019-11-08 unstable, swinging from 1680.018 to 1680.022`` But I would say this time they were at least 20 Hz = .020 apart. I asked Michiganders about this: ``Hi Harold & Kenneth, Last night at 0612+ UT I had an open carrier on 1680 looping NE/SW, vs Monroe to the SE, and the NE one was slightly higher in frequency, making fast SAH. I figure it was probably WPRR transmitter. Could you check out whether it`s on the air with OC? Glenn`` Kenneth Vito Zichi replies quickly: ``I would guess your assumption about the open carrier is correct. Jack Amelar in Lowell (near Grand Rapids and in a far better location to tell than either Harold or I) sent an email on Friday: "Tonight, 1680 is on with dead carrier.
